Complete package for learning & teaching

Signworld is an unparalleled learning resource for the deaf community. Possessing in excess of 5000 videos, interactive tests and other learning materials, they needed a digital presence to bring these tools to their online community.

It was with a mixture of apprehension and excitement that we undertook the job of delivering a website that supported the complete learning and teaching of the British Sign Language.

Strategy development & goal setting

The brief from Signworld was to provide them with a digital platform to share their expanse of learning resources to the deaf community. The website had to be user friendly and function smoothly.

We had to build the best sign language learning tool that was available online. This was a lesson learnt in scalability for sure; tackling in excess of 5000 videos that were stored in two formats posed massive questions. The site had to be complex in terms of functionality but easy to use.

User experience & wireframes development

Our wireframing workshop was imperative to us building Signworld a website that met their brief.

Within the wireframing process we formed the architecture of the site; it was at this stage that we worked with Signworld to plan how the vast amounts of information were going to be displayed and navigated on the website.

The wireframe workshop meant that Signworld had full involvement in the process from start to finish, which meant that we constructed a website that met with the client's objectives in a timely fashion.

Final designs

Technical architecture & development

Once Signworld had approved the functionality and content of the site, our dev team set to work producing a website.

CMS

We built a secure & bespoke CMS which sits behind the website and allows Signworld the ability to manage their website. Whether it is adding new lessons, uploading videos or managing their orders, they can do this whenever and wherever they want.

Symfony

The website was built using Symfony, which is an open source PHP web development framework, so the website is secure and robust.

Optimised

With over 5,000 videos as well as numerous interactive tests, the website has been highly optimised to deal with spikes in traffic which are often caused by Signworld's various television appearances.

Proud

Thank you and special thanks to Steve for your patience and professionalism getting this to where we are now. This we believe is now shaping into a launch we can all be really proud about. We are confident the site is going to be successful. And as a final thank-you, I have a bottle of champagne here in Newcastle from our 'soft launch reception' a few weeks ago.
